Labor Day

My doctor wanted to start induction on Friday, March 4th.  Kirk and I headed to the hospital Thursday night (March 3rd), with the pitocin to be administered Friday morning at 8:00 a.m.  I guess the little guy wanted to do it drug free, because I started having STRONG contractions at 7:00 a.m, so no pitocin!  Of course, I was alone, because Kirk and I both woke at 5:30 and he decided to go home and shower since we had until 8:00 a.m.  So I quickly called him and Mom and told them to hurry because I was ready!

Kirk arrived just in time to help with the epidural.  Once I began to feel the sweet effects from that, all went smoothly.  I quickly went from 5 cm dilated to 9 in just under a few hours.  I was ready to deliver at 11:30, but I had to wait because the doctor had a lunch meeting.  No big deal.  I was told to "labor down" until she arrived.  Finally, at around 1:15 she arrived, I pushed 20 or so times, and he was here!  As Melissa said, "Easy Peasy!"  The best part of the experience was when the baby was half way out, the doctor instructed me to do the rest of the work.  So I reached down, and pulled him out and placed him on my chest.

Gabriel Matthew Martin was born at 1:46 p.m. weighing 6 pounds and 12 ounces.

Hospital Visitors

Going Home...I cried.  Kirk left to pull up the car.  I didn't want to leave because the hospital felt so safe and secure.  Through tears, I asked Gabriel if he was sure he wanted to go.  He seemed more confident than me so off we went.

Our new son.
