Gabriel's First Christmas - 2011

Merry Christmas to all!  We couldn't have asked for a better Christmas.  It was wonderful spending time with family and spoiling the new additions.  Christmas Eve was spent at The Snyder's where we enjoyed a feast of roasted duck.  Grandma came over Christmas morning to open gifts with us.  Santa brought Gabriel a hand crafted Radio Flyer wagon (Santa provided the wagon, Dad and Uncle Al built the wooden slats, complete with Gabriel's name and the year).  Then we all headed to Grandma's house for more gift opening, board games, and another feast.  After dinner, we took the boys to look at Christmas lights in a local neighborhood.  The highlight for Gabriel was riding in the wagon.  He would stand up, holding on with one hand and just wave and wave with the other hand.  It was truly a joyous celebration of Jesus' birthday..

The are almost the same weight.  Gabriel is 7 months older.

My back started hurting so I hopped in.  Benjamin said "Caca out."

The boys look drunk.  =p

Happy Birthday Jesus!

Dental Hygienist

Gabriel loves to brush his teeth.  Every time he sees me doing it, he crawls to the bathroom and reaches for the tooth brush.  I decided to let him have his own and he will just sit and brush and brush.  In truth, it probably just feels good on those sore gums.  We're at eight teeth now and I can see several more buds about to cut.

Gobble Gobble

I think I'm finally starting to awake from my turkey/stuffing/vomit casserole/pecan pie coma.  I actually only took one nap today so I take that as a positive sign.  Yesterday included multiple.  And while I was totally against buying into the hype of Black Friday shopping, I must come clean and admit that I met Melissa at CVS...maybe not your typical BF destination but we found some great buys.  And I stopped at ACE Hardware, but only for a very special gift for Gabriel.

My family had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I hope yours did too.  Here are some photos.

Eight Months, One Week, and Five Days Old

Granted, it's not a milestone, but you have started doing so many exciting things!  Just shy of eight months, you started crawling.  And a few days after that, I noticed you have no problem pulling yourself up on furniture and tables and walking around using them as a hand rail.  Here are some other skills you are mastering -
  • You play Indian.  You put your hand over your mouth (or mine) and say AhBaBaBaBa.
  • You kiss.  Sometimes I can get you to do it. Other times, not so much.
  • You click.  You made a clicking noise with your tongue and you wait for me to do it in reply.  It seems to be a way of communicating (what? I'm not sure).  But when we take long walks with the dogs, you and I can go back and forth clicking for over a mile.
  • You love eating bread.  Especially if it's dipped in something yummy like Shrimp Bisque.
  • You have started picking up the newspaper.  I've always carried you outside to get the paper, and as of today, you wanted to reach down and pick it up yourself.  Even the Monsters don't do this.
  • Bath time is still one of your favorite activities.  Recently, if you are bathing alone, I stopped using the sponge bath mat.  Now you are in the tub all by yourself and you love to lay down in the water on your back and kick your feet.  Mommy gets soaked.
When you were first born, I often felt sad about every passing day because you were no longer an infant, or a 3 month old....time was moving so fast it made me sad.  But now, it's so exciting to see how proud you get when you master a new skill...I feel more happy about you growing up.  Being a parent is such an amazing blessing, and I thank God everyday for having you as my son.  I love you Gabriel.

Crawling for Auntie Melissa

Benjamin and Matthew have been fighting colds for over a week.  Melissa told me yesterday that they were officially on "lockdown" until the illnesses had passed.  So she hasn't been able to witness Gabriel's latest achievment.  This is for Auntie Melissa.

Raised by a pack...

Of weimaraners!  I think he thinks he's one of them.  Gabriel recently started crawling so he's spending much more time of the floor with the Monsters.  They seems to enjoy it and he does too.  I was dreading crawling a bit but he looks so cute when he does it that it's not that bad.

Halloween! (a.k.a. - Day to Torture Your Baby)

We went to Auntie Melissa's and Uncle Edmund's house for Halloween.  Again, this is one of those times where the pictures speak for themselves.  We did get in a little trick or treating before the rain started.  Gabriel was dressed as Donkey, Benjamin as Puss N' Boots, and Matthew as Shrek.  Uncle Andrew was a Monster.  And some of the other kiddies in attendance were Batman, a Cars character, and a princess.  Uncle Edmund made us all chili.  Melissa made the desserts.  Gabriel screamed the whole way home.

Wait for it.

Wait for it...

Wait....

And he's off!

We're cruel.

Where ya goin' Donkey?

After trick or treating, we again tried for a much more casual group shot in the nursery.  You can see how that went too...
